J. Press’ suiting expertise dates back to 1902, when Jacobi Press learned the art of cutting and design from industry expert and merchant tailor Herman Goldbaum. As told by Jacobi’s grandson, Jacobi was a dapper man, carefully dressed in three-piece English woolens. He introduced his tailored clothing by knocking on dormitory doors at Yale, and it wasn’t long before the campus was covered in J. Press attire. Soon after, “The Press firm’s ledgers read like an unabridged version of Who’s Who in American Life.”
