Few New York institutions captured the glamour and mystique of Manhattan nightlife quite like the legendary “21” Club. Originally opened in 1922 by cousins Jack Kreindler and Charlie Berns, the former Prohibition-era speakeasy evolved into one of the city’s most celebrated dining destinations. A longtime favorite of society figures and Hollywood icons alike, the Club famously housed private wine collections for luminaries including Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and John F. Kennedy, and even served as the setting for the first date of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.
