Opening its doors in 1873, Villa d'Este is regarded as one of the world's finest hotels. Once a 16th-century royal residence, the hotel overlooks the shores of Lake Como and has welcomed royalty, statesmen, and generations of distinguished travelers. Among its celebrated guests are Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Clark Gable, and Frank Sinatra. The property also served as a filming location for Alfred Hitchcock's first feature film, The Pleasure Garden (1925).
